Making sure you drink enough water each day is truly beneficial for your skin and your health too! Hydration is what keeps your skin looking younger, especially as you age. Your skin is an organ, made up of cells and those cells are made up of water. Without water, your skin cells will not function properly, which causes your skin to look dry, tight, and flaky. This is because when you get dehydrated your system pulls water from other parts of the body, including your skin, to maintain fluid concentration in your blood. And when water is pulled from your skin, your eyes look sunken and your skin can show more wrinkles.
Make sure your skin stays hydrated all year long and especially during the real hot summer months with these helpful tips.
1. Drink 8-10 glasses of water per day. Non-caffeinated herbal teas can also be hydrating. Make sure you replenish the liquid that your skin loses everyday. Don't love drinking water? Amp up your water with fruit and herb infusions such as strawberries or lemon & fresh mint.
2. Make sure you use a good moisturizer to lock hydration into your skin.
3. Eat foods like fruits and vegetables with a high water content. We get 20 percent of our hydration from the foods we eat. Some examples include watermelon, strawberries, cantaloupe, cucumber and celery.
4. Avoid drinking too much alcohol and caffeine, both of which actually dehydrate your skin. When you look good you feel good. Staying hydrating is important for the overall health of your body and especially your skin.
