Rosacea

What is Rosacea?

Rosacea is a condition of the facial skin that causes your face to appear red and can even be accompanied by swelling and acne-like sores.

Rosacea is not a serious medical condition, but it can take an emotional toll. While there is no cure for the condition, Rosacea can be controlled with the right treatment.

Who is affected?

Rosacea is quite common. In North America, it is estimated that over 14 million people suffer from the condition. Rosacea typically affects people with fair skin. It occurs more in women but the more severe cases seem to be more prevalent with men. Those between 30 to 60 years of age or more likely to suffer from Rosacea.

What are the signs and symptom of Rosacea?

Flushing, persistent redness of the face, red nose (called a bulbous nose), bumps and pimples that may ooze or crust , and visible blood vessels are the most common signs of Rosacea. Other Potential Signs and Symptoms include: Eye Irritation, swollen eye lids and sties, burning or stinging of face, dry and or thickened skin, facial swelling.

Which natural ingredients are helpful for Rosacea.

Several natural ingredients have been shown to be beneficial for Rosacea, including:

  • Pine bark extract
  • Aloe
  • Niacinamide
  • Green tea

Zax’s Original Facial Redness Cream uses all of these ingredients.

What skin care routine works best for Rosacea?

It is very important to treat Rosacea gently.

Do not use a rough, abrasive product. Make sure to rinse your face with lukewarm water and the blot dry with a soft towel, do not scrub! Alcohol and some toners, especially those that contain witch hazel or other astringents can further irritate the skin and should therefore be avoided.

We obviously recommend Zax's Original Facial Redness Cream as it is packed with gentle, natural ingredients proven to be effective for reducing the facial redness associated with Rosacea.

It is also very important for those who have Rosacea to avoid prolonged sun exposure and to protect their skin by using a sunscreen that has an SPF rating of 15 or higher.

What triggers to avoid?

You can improve the chances of maintaining remission by identifying and avoiding lifestyle and environmental factors called triggers that lead rosacea flare-ups or aggravate your condition. While these vary by individual, consider avoiding excess sun exposure, intense activities in hot weather. Try deep breathing, yoga, or other relaxation techniques to help reduce stress. With respect to food, limit spicy ones, alcohol, and hot beverages.

What medical Rosacea Treatment are available?

While there is no cure for rosacea and the cause is unknown, therapy is available to control or reverse its signs and symptoms.

Rosacea is not acne and will not improve with over-the-counter acne treatment. In addition to natural ingredients described above and a good skin care routine various oral and topical medications may be prescribed to treat the bumps, pimples and redness often associated with the disorder.

Your doctor or dermatologist might consider Antibiotic pills (such as minocycline, or doxycycline) or applied to the skin (such as metronidazole). Other medications or laser surgery may help reduce the redness.
